Announcing CAST Summer Camps 2024!

Theater in the Grove is thrilled to announce the return of our youth summer camp program, CAST, in July 2024!  Based on past popularity, this will fill up quick so be sure to reserve your spot as soon as registration opens on April 21, 2024 at 12PM PDT. In the meantime, for those with a financial need we are accepting scholarship applications. 

CAST Performance Camp 2024

Camp dates: July 15 – July 26, 2024 9AM – 5PM
(weekdays only)

Performances July 26, 27, August 1, 2 @ 7:30PM
Performances July 27, 28, August 2,3 @ 2:30PM

Designed for young thespians, both trained and untrained, our  CAST Summer Performance Camp is for youth ages 13 – 18 years old.  Join us to bring “The Little Mermaid” to life!

This camp is limited in size, so early registration is important:

13-15 year olds: 15 spots available

16-18 year olds: 15 spots available

If your child doesn’t secure a registration spot, then there will be a chance to audition for one of the 10 additional roles. (audition dates to be announced)

Costs

The two week camp costs $500 per student.

CAST Tech Camp 2024

Camp dates: July 8 – 12 9AM to 5PM

In this technical theatre camp students, will focus on the construction of the set and other technical aspects preparing for The Little Mermaid. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to use power tools, painting skills, and other tech skills to produce shows.

13-18 year olds: 20 spots available

Students participating in the tech camp will have the opportunity to sign up to be on the tech crew for “The Little Mermaid” at no additional cost.

Costs

This one week camp costs $250 per student.

Dive Under the Sea!

This production of “The Little Mermaid” is being directed by TITG President, and Hillsboro High School Drama teacher, Zachary Centers. Vocal direction is provided by Benjamin Noyes, choreography by Jeananne Kelsey, and music direction by Alicia Barrett.

Campers will hone their acting, singing, and dancing skills, all while preparing for an incredible production of “The Little Mermaid.”

Should my child attend?

If your child is between the ages of 13 & 18, has an interest (or love) of things related to live theatre, then YES, these camps are perfect for them.

They need not have previous theatre/acting experience.

Q: What dates do I need to remember?

A:

  • April 12, 5PM PT: All scholarship applications must be received.
  • April 19: We will notify you if your camper was selected to receive a scholarship
  • April 21, 12PM PT: Camp registration opens.
  • July 8 – 12, 9AM to 5PM: Tech Camp
  • July 15 – July 26, 9AM to 5PM: Performance Camp

Q: My family can’t afford this camp. Are scholarships available?

A: Yes! Theatre in the Grove is pleased to announce that through a generous donation by an anonymous organization that we have a limited number of scholarships available. Click on the Scholarship link to apply.

Q: Can my child attend both the Performance Camp and the Tech Camp?

A. Yes. However, each camp has its own camp fee and a scholarship awarded for one may not necessarily be awarded to the other.

Q: My child doesn’t have any theater/acting/singing/dancing experience. Are they able to attend?

A: Yes! This camp is about learning, so we expect that some of our campers will be completely new to this.

Q: My child is under 13. Does that mean they cannot attend?

A: Unfortunately, yes.  Because this is our first year at holding camp since the pandemic, we are starting slow. However, we plan to have camps for younger youth in the future. Stay tuned!

Q: We have a vacation scheduled during part of the camp. Can my child still attend?

A: Unfortunately, no.  This is an intensive 2 week camp and requires ever camper present every day.

Q: My child is only interested in lights/sound/set construction aspects of theatre. Which camp is for them?

A: If your child isn’t interested in acting/performing, then the Tech Camp is more appropriate for them.

Q: Is this camp safe for my child?

A: Theatre in the Grove runs background checks on all staff and volunteers, including those involved with the production.  In addition, we have strict policies in place designed to protect our youth.
