In March 2020, the Federal CARES act provided funds to States to help support relief of all kinds to people, institutions, and agencies to help ease the losses and costs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  From those funds, the Oregon Legislative Emergency Board made available $50 million in grants to over 85 arts and cultural organizations and venues throughout the state .

As a non-profit cultural institution, Theatre in the Grove received $25,900. We are very grateful for these funds as it helps us to continue to pay our bills while we are closed to the public.

To give some perspective, The Oregon Shakespeare Festival received $4.71 million, Portland Center Stage at the Armory received $875,000, and Lakewood Center for Performing Arts received $84,000.

The original grant was for losses and expenses through December, 2020, but has been extended through December, 2021.  This very welcome grant basically covers our rents, utilities, and corporation fees for about a year, and when you return to live theatre here in Forest Grove, we’ll have a light on for you.
