Theatre in the Grove is excited to announce auditions for Reefer Madness the Musical

Auditions: December 8th and 9th
All actors must be 18+ at the start of rehearsals on January 5th.

Please prepare 32 bars (30-60 sec) of a musical theatre song. An accompanist will be available. If using an audition track please provide your own bluetooth speaker.
Callbacks at discretion of the director.
Rehearsals will begin Jan 5th
Performances will be March 28, 29, 30, April 4, 5, 11, 12, 13. Fri 7:30 pm. Sat. 7:30pm, Sunday 2:30pm and a special midnight performance on April 5th.
INCLUSIVE CASTING
The creative team is committed to casting practices that advance diversity and inclusion. All ethnicities, genders, and abilities will be considered for every role. Additionally, the genders listed in the breakdown below are specific to the pronouns used in the script, however the creative team may consider any gender identity for roles provided the performer can execute the vocal requirements.
Cast of Characters
- Mary Lane (Mezzo-Soprano, Female, Late teens – played by an adult)- Jimmy’s sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl.
- Jimmy Harper (Tenor, Male, Late Teens – played by an adult)- a wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of reefer.
- The Lecturer (Baritone, Male, Adult)- a severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer Madness; doubles as Goat-Man, Mr. Poppy, Irish Priest, Old Man, Radio Announcer, Ticket-Taker, Policeman, FDR.
- Jack Stone (Tenor, Male, Adult)- the handsome and ruthless proprietor of the Reefer Den, a 30’s gangster movie-type; doubles as Jesus, George Washington.
- Mae (Alto, Female, Adult)- an attractive, yet slightly haggard dame in her mid-30s, the hostess of the Reefer Den.
- Sally (Alto, Female, Adult)- a sexy and seductive resident of the Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck; doubles as Lady Liberty.
- Ralph Wiley (Tenor, Male, Adult)- a denizen of the Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended long ago due to his reefer habit; doubles as Sally’s Baby, Switch-Puller, Uncle Sam.
- Placard Girl (Spoken, Female, Late Teens-Adult)-Assistant to The Lecturer
- Ensemble– Mixed gender group to represent Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime, Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled finale. (varying vocal parts and genders)
