PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS
Curly: M, 18-35, Baritone, a cowboy with an expansive, charismatic personality and a sense of humor. Strong enough to court and win strong-willed farmer’s daughter Laurey. Love scene. Fight scene

Will Parker: M, 18-35, Bari-tenor, cowboy. Enthusiastic, strong, looks toward the future, yet not an Einstein. Wins wandering Ado Annie from his rival, Ali Hakim. Cowboy-style dancing. Love scene.

Jud Fry: M, 18-35, Bass-Baritone. Dark, brooding loner farmhand who longs for Laurey. Dies onstage in a knife fight with Curley. Strong acting a must; the audience has to hate this guy. Some comedy smarts a plus. Solo song and duet; no dance. Not for the faint of heart.

Ali Hakim: M, 18-35, Over-the-top Persian peddler with an eye for the ladies, especially Ado Annie. Comic accent, huge personality. Hand-smooching lady-killer; sweeps Annie off her feet with his marathon kisses. One solo number, but, honestly, singing takes a back seat to laughs in this role.

Laurey: F, 18-35, Lyric Soprano. Lovely and feisty, a farmer’s daughter in love with cowboy Curley. Romantic, yet confident, independent and strong.

Ado Annie Carnes: F, 18-35, Mezzo-Soprano, Something of a Belter. Comic gifts a plus in portraying this warm-hearted gal whose romances never give her father Judge Carnes a moment of peace. Falls for the shifty peddler Ali Hakim, but ultimately is won by the determined courtship of Will Parker.

Aunt Eller: F, 35+, Mezzo. Acting role with some singing. Laurey’s sensible 50- something aunt, wise, practical but with a ready sense of humor.

Andrew Carnes: M, 35+, Baritone/Tenor. Irascible father of the incorrigibly flirtatious Ado Annie. Most days, he looks at the world down the barrel of his shotgun. Comedy skills needed here, no virtuoso singing but some solo lines in “The Farmer and the Cowboy.”

Gertie Cummings: F, 18-35, Soprano/Alto. Comic character with a supremely annoying giggle who has set her cap for Curley. Plans currently call for her to sing, but non-singing comediennes also considered.

Ike Skidmore: M, Baritone, Farmer, (30’s+) Owns the ranch where the Box Social takes place.
