Theatre in the Grove presents the Tony Award winning and familiar comedic journey GOD OF CARNAGE by Yasmina Reza and directed by Zachary Centers. GOD OF CARNAGE is a comedy of manners, without the manners that is especially relatable to those who are parents.
A violent playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.
Michael & Veronica invite Alan & Annette to their home in an attempt to amicably resolve the consequences of their children’s playground altercation. It doesn’t take long before this civilized discussion spirals downhill into a savagely funny comedy of (bad) manners. Reza’s play begs the question – How can we expect children to act like grown-ups if adults cannot control their own behavior?
GOD OF CARNAGE features Kate Barrett as Veronica, a writer, Brandon B Weaver as Michael, a self-made wholesaler. Benjamin Philip as Alan, a lawyer who is always on the phone and Tori Lee Scoles as Annette, who is in wealth management.
This show does contain adult language and themes.
