Written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB follows five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s lives. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized and “perfect” life, and continues to be the group’s leader. Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever, is a career dynamo. But her victories in the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations of her personal life. Lexie, pampered and outspoken, is determined to hold on to her looks and youth as long as possible. She enjoys being married—over and over and over again. The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life, has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos. And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood that takes them all by surprise. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives, these friends, proving the enduring power of “teamwork,” rally ’round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings, May 31 through June 15. Matinee performances are Sunday afternoons, June 2 through June 16 at 2:30 p.m.

(Children’s After School Theatre)

This summer we have a theatre full of adventure for you!  Join us for a CAST Summer Camp or a CAST Playhouse production, or do both!

     CAST Summer Camps:  A two week, half day theatre adventure, where fun and theatre games culminate in a short theatrical showcase.

     CAST Playhouse:  An opportunity to play a part or work backstage and experience  the rehearsal and performance of a play or musical!

 Camp 1:  Grades 4 -7       Hey! Let’s do a show!   June 17-28*  8:30am to Noon      Instructor:  John Anderberg 

Through theatre games, exercises and improvisation, Campers will discover how creative they can be in a supportive, group environment as they write and perform their own original play.

Camp 2:  Grades 1-4  “Play”ing on Stage!  June 17 – 28 *  1:00pm to 4:30pm     Instructor:  Jeanna Van Dyke

An opportunity for children to learn about the stage through games and experience the fun of theatre as they work together as a group and create their own play.

Camp 3:  Grades 6 – 12   Making Theatre!  July 15 – 26*  8:30am to Noon     Instructor:  John Anderberg

What does it take to stage a production?   These campers will learn about set design and construction, costumes, lighting and makeup as they “tech” and act in a play of their choice.

Camp 4:  Grades 6 – 12  Musical Theatre!  July 15 – 26* 1:00pm to 4:30pm  Instructor:  Jeanna Van Dyke

Why are musicals so popular?  These young actors will have the opportunity explore the thrill of singing on stage as they learn about the art and put together their own musical production.

Camp tuition is $115.

Playhouse

CAST Playhouse productions are open to all children, both the experienced young actors and those that have never been on stage before,  and are designed to teach theatre while giving the cast “the time of their lives”.   Children participate in the CAST Playhouse  free of charge.   In addition,  CAST Playhouse performances are great,  affordable family entertainment with low ticket prices!

CAST Playhouse Summer 2013 productions:  This summer we will be doing three CAST Playhouse productions, including two musicals, one for younger actors and one for teenagers.  To participate, actors and technicians need to apply and be accepted into the program.  Applications are available on the theatre website or at the door on the application date, 30 minutes prior.  Actors and technicians must apply in person.  Acceptance is NOT based on first come/first serve or experience.

Summer 2013 CAST Playhouse Schedule: 

                The first musical will be for age 12 and under and will perform on July 12,13,14,19,20,21.

                The Classic production will perform on August 2,3,4,9,10,11

                The second musical will be for age 12 and over and will perform on August 16,17,18,23,24,25.
